Yeast Infection In Man

Yeast Infection In Man

Many people do not know that the occurrence of yeast infection in man is actually quite high. If a female has an infection, she can pass it to her partner, resulting in the yeast infection in man. Sometimes, though there are really no symptoms of a yeast infection in man, especially if it travels directly into his body and does not settle in the penis. If the female partner has a vaginal yeast infection, the likelihood that there is also a yeast infection in man is quite high. As a result, it is very important for a man to see his doctor if it is suspected that he has acquired a yeast infection in man.

Symptoms of a yeast infection in man include all kinds of things, but in particular, for a yeast infection in man that is affecting the penis, inflamed skin on the head of the penis and a discharge from the penile opening are indicative of a yeast infection in man. It is likely, though, that a yeast infection in man had developed somewhere else in the body. So symptoms of this kind of yeast infection in man include feelings of constipation and excess gaseousness, prostate problems, and fungal infections of the skin, like on the feet or nail beds.

Yeast occurs naturally throughout the body, so exposure to a yeast infection can actually end up causing a yeast infection in man somewhere other than the genital area. This is because, in a female, the vagina provides a dark, moist area for the yeast to grow. Conversely, the yeast infection in man is unlikely to settle on the penis since this area typically stays dry.

However, if the yeast infection in man is in fact on the penis, again, the symptoms will be an inflamed head of the penis, itching and/or burning of the penis head, bumps (often mimicking those of herpes), and discharge. This type of yeast infection in man can be alarming and embarrassing, but you should know that the occurrence of yeast infection in man is so typical that your doctor will be unfazed.

The yeast infection in man, once diagnosed, can be treated much the same way other yeast infections are treated. A doctor can prescribe pills that are anti-fungal; there are also anti-fungal ointments and topical solutions designed specifically for the yeast infection in man.

Interestingly, yeast infection in mans are not as rare as many people may believe. More than half of men will experience some type of yeast infection in man over their lifetime, though they may never know they have had this yeast infection in man. Unless, of course, it is the yeast infection in man that affects the penis.

To try to lessen the chances of contracting or developing a yeast infection in man, use proper hygiene practices, like keeping scrupulously clean and dry, and making sure that your partner informs you immediately if she suspects she has a yeast infection. The infection can be passed back and forth, so it is imperative that you are aware of who has what at any given time.
